Why have you decided to reduce charity entries for 2022?
An unprecedented number of rollover places from 2021, combined with charity places rolled over to 2022 from the cancelled 2020 mass event, meant we have had to review all entry types for 2022 to ensure the event does not exceed its new maximum capacity of 50,000 finishers. Click here for more information.
Why has my charity had its number of places reduced?
Our review included looking at each charity's situation, taking into account the fill rate achieved in 2021, how many places that charity was rolling over to 2022 and how many other places it held for 2022. Click here for the full details.
Have other groups or entries been affected through your calculations?
Yes. We reviewed all entry types and reduced the number of entries in other categories too.
Why were we not informed of these changes sooner?
We have been working on this since October and it has been a hugely complex task to review all places in the event, look at the data for each individual charity and ensure the changes we have made are fair to all. We emailed our charity partners in December to advise that the process has taken longer than we anticipated. All charities now have confirmation of the number of places for 2022 several weeks in advance of the ballot results, which will be announced in late February.
Bonds
When will one-year bonds be available again?
We plan to offer one-year bonds again for the 2024 TCS London Marathon.
When will our Golden Bond be renewed?
We are planning for all Golden Bonds that are not being renewed for 2022 to be available for renewal for the 2023 event and to run from 2023 to 2025 inclusive.
Will there be a Charity Ballot this year?
We are not able to offer the Charity Ballot for the 2022 TCS London Marathon as we need to reduce the number of entries to ensure the event does not exceed its new maximum capacity of 50,000 finishers. We are planning for the Charity Ballot, which offers 500 charities one place in the event, to return in 2023.
Next steps
When will we be invoiced for our 2022 Golden Bonds?
Invoices for 2022 Golden Bonds will be sent out at the end of January 2022.
What is the timeline for the 2022 TCS London Marathon?
The public ballot results for the 2022 TCS London Marathon will be announced by the end of February 2022. We will make consoles to register participants available to charities in April 2022.
