Join the Children with Cancer UK team
At Children with Cancer UK, we have one aim – to give every child with cancer the opportunity to ring the end of treatment bell, to keep their family together. By joining our 2022 TCS London Marathon team, you will be doing just that.
Every day in the UK, 12 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. On average, two of these children will not survive. A single child dying of cancer is one too many. We are dedicated to funding research into the causes and treatment of childhood cancers, not only to improve survival rates, but to also find kinder, more effective treatments with fewer toxic side effects.
Joining our 2022 team couldn’t be easier – get in touch and we'll let you know how to be part of it. We promise to support you all the way and get you to the Finish Line. We’ve got training and fundraising advice and a dedicated team ready to answer any questions you may have.
You'll receive regular contact from the Sports Team to provide top tips and event day information, a unique running vest, pre-marathon meet ups, support from running specialists and amazing support on the day around the course and when you have finished.
Read what Charlie says about being part of our team.
“I was diagnosed with a germ cell tumour five years ago. It was found prior to me having a hip replacement. I was lucky they caught the cancer early and I have been in remission ever since. The treatment was aggressive and it took a real toll on me, both physically and mentally.
“While going through treatment, I made the decision to run the London Marathon for Children with Cancer UK. In hospital I thought: ‘If I'm feeling like this, then how must a child feel going through cancer treatment?’ I wanted to raise as much money as possible for the charity and I needed something to focus on to get me through the treatment. After the cancer treatment, I began my training and fundraising for the 2018 London Marathon.
“The Children with Cancer UK Sports Team was brilliant! The support I received throughout my training and fundraising was incredible. From the team meets, training support and fundraising materials, you never felt like you were alone – they were only a phone call or email away. It was a real team effort! No one should have to suffer alone going through cancer, especially a child.
“I love the charity so much I ran the marathon again to raise money for Children with Cancer UK in 2019, and then the virtual marathon in 2020 in the bell costume. I'll be running again this year, in October 2022. I think I have said more than enough – get your trainers on and support this amazing charity!”
