Help beat childhood cancer at the TCS London Marathon
Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSH Charity) is the Charity of the Year for the 2023 TCS London Marathon.
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) treats the most seriously ill children from across the UK and sees the most rare and difficult-to-treat childhood cancers.
Every week, around five children in the UK lose their lives to cancer. That’s five families who are faced with the worst possible news.
For every child, parent and family – it's time to beat it.
For every smile, hug and laugh – it's time to beat it.
For their future – it's time to beat it.
It’s time to push the boundaries. Through world-class facilities designed to support every aspect of care, from diagnosis to remission and beyond, in a child-focused environment. Through pioneering research to find the most effective and kindest treatments and cures to beat childhood cancer.
When Christian was 11 years old, he was referred to GOSH for treatment after an MRI scan showed a tumour in his jaw.
"It was a scary time. The tumour I had was a bone-eating tumour, so we had to go to GOSH every week for a round of chemotherapy. From my first appointment, there were such good vibes everywhere – it didn’t feel like a hospital. It felt like home for a little bit, to be honest.
"After six months, we got called into the consultant’s room and she said I was all good. Getting the all-clear was a bit unexpected. I was like, 'Wow, okay!'
"I signed up to run the TCS London Marathon because I love keeping fit and needed a challenge, and I thought who better to run it for than Great Ormond Street Hospital? I’m running in aid of the people I met along the way, the staff and some of the people who aren’t here today. That motivates me. I’m still here because of GOSH and the people there will always hold a special place in my heart."
Run with Christian and our Charity of the Year team and we’ll support you every step of the way with training plans, fitness tips and motivation on the day. You’ll feel the thrill of being a part of a community of runners and volunteers, knowing you’re helping GOSH give children with cancer the extraordinary care, expertise and facilities they need.
We know there’s still a long way to go. But every mile matters. And we'll get there together.
Together we can run it. Together we can help beat childhood cancer.
