About the ballot

What is the TCS London Marathon Ballot?

We often talk about ‘the ballot’ – ballot entrants, ballot results and so on. But what exactly is the TCS London Marathon Ballot? If you don’t know, you’ve come to the right place.

The TCS London Marathon Ballot (‘the ballot’) is like The National Lottery – you enter along with thousands of others and then the lucky winners are chosen at random in a draw. But, if you’re successful in the TCS London Marathon Ballot, instead of receiving a cash prize you’ll be allocated a place in the next edition of the event, which you then have time to pay for and secure.

Did you know you can get a second chance?

If you chose to donate your entry fee during the ballot process, it’s a win-win situation. If you do get a ballot place, it means your entry is pre-paid and confirmed. If you don’t get a place, we’ll automatically enter you into a second ballot, doubling your chance of getting a place in the 2024 event. Your entry fee is also reduced from £69.99 to £49.99 if you're successful in either ballot.

If you  are unsuccessful in both ballots, you’ll receive a premium winter running top (RRP £60) and serious kudos, as your donation will help the London Marathon Foundation to make a difference and inspire activity across the UK.
