See the incredible story of former political prisoner Anoosheh Ashoori
As a political prisoner in Iran's Evin Prison, one of the most notorious prisons in the world, Anoosheh Ashoori dreamt of being free and running the London Marathon during the small windows of exercise alloted to him.
Having been arrested in Iran in August 2017 and later sentenced to 12 years in jail as an accused spy, Anoosheh was finally released from Evin Prison in March this year after five harrowing years in captivity. Now, he is looking forward to running the 2022 TCS London Marathon on Sunday 2 October and making his prison-bound marathon hopes a reality.
Anoosheh will be running the mass edition of this year’s event – which weaves its way from Greenwich to The Mall – to raise vital funds for Amnesty International and Hostage International. He is also running to raise awareness of the political prisoners left behind, still suffering the way he did in Evin Prison.
Watch the video below to hear Anoosheh’s incredible story as he prepares to take on the marathon of his dreams with his son, Aryan, who now works at Amnesty International.
