Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon sells out
This year’s virtual Virgin Money London Marathon is officially sold out! General entries were snapped up in just 11 days and 50,000 participants around the globe will join 50,000 on the streets of London in the world’s biggest-ever marathon on Sunday 3 October.
The virtual event was held for the first time in 2020 and was awarded a Guinness World Records title for the 'Most users to run a remote marathon in 24 hours' with 37,966 finishers.
It was also the most inclusive marathon in the 40-year history of the event, with participants able to complete the 26.2-mile distance any time between 00:00:00 and 23:59:59 BST on the day.
Hugh Brasher, Event Director of the Virgin Money London Marathon, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have sold out the virtual Virgin Money London Marathon so quickly. Our first virtual marathon last year was a huge success and it's wonderful that 50,000 people want to be part of it this October, doing the marathon their way, wherever they are in the world.
“Our 50,000 virtual participants will be an integral part of what is set to be the world’s biggest-ever marathon on Sunday 3 October, adding to the 50,000 people who will take on the traditional route from Blackheath to The Mall, to create a historic total of 100,000 participants. It promises to be a spectacular and memorable 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon.”
The only way for participants to now secure a place in the virtual Virgin Money London Marathon is through a charity place.
The virtual 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon takes place on Sunday 3 October alongside the traditional event on the same day.
Participants can complete the 26.2 miles on the course of their choice any time from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59 BST. The Virgin Money London Marathon App, powered by TCS, will enable runners to track and record their runs.
All finishers will be sent the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon New Balance finisher T-shirt and official medal.
