Overview

The 2022 TCS London Marathon, the 42nd edition of the event, takes place on Sunday 2 October. It will be the third and final time the event is held in the autumn, having been moved from the traditional April slot due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 2023 race will return to spring in 2024, taking place on Saturday 23 April.

For the third year, the virtual TCS London Marathon will be held on the same day, with participants able to take on the 26.2-mile challenge wherever they are in the world between 00:00 and 23:59 on Sunday 2 October.

In total, 50,000 people are expected to take part, with approximately 40,000 scheduled to participate in the traditional mass event.

This year’s event also includes a landmark change to the TCS Mini London Marathon, with the children’s event taking place on Saturday 1 October – the day before the main TCS London Marathon for the first time ever.

In the elite races, Sir Mo Farah returns to the TCS London Marathon for the first time since 2019 and all the defending champions from 2022 will be back to defend their titles. To find out more about the elite races, click here.

For the second successive year, the TCS London Marathon will also host the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group Championships for the best athletes around the world aged 40 and over.
