Vincent Kipchumba came close to winning the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon on his debut in the event, but was outsprinted in the closing metres by Shura Kitata and had to settle for second place. Nevertheless, it was still a huge result for the Kenyan whose breakthrough came in 2019 when he won the Vienna Marathon in 2:06:56 in the spring, which he followed up in the autumn by winning the prestigious Amsterdam Marathon in a PB of 2:05:09. He made his marathon debut in 2015 and ran his quickest half marathon of 60:32 when second in Berlin in 2017.
