Guinness World Records

Meet the participants hoping to write their names in the book of Guinness World Records

For the 15th consecutive year, Guinness World Records has collaborated with the TCS London Marathon to provide the most creative and inspirational fun runners at the 2022 event with world record verification on the Finish Line.

A team of Guinness World Records adjudicators will be on hand at both the Start and Finish Lines of the TCS London Marathon to check costumes, verify times and confirm successful runners as official GWR title holders, earning them a coveted place in the 2024 book out in September 2023.

In total, there are 28 official Guinness World Record attempts being made this year. Among those trying to write their name in the record books is Lexi Alyx Chambers, 44, an army veteran and former NHS nurse who had to have a leg amputated three years ago.

Lexi is attempting to enter the Guinness World Records book for the fastest marathon in a non-racing wheelchair while also raising funds for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans charity.

She said: “I am hoping to inspire others and show that even when the worst happens, like losing your leg, you can still achieve the impossible and accomplish your dreams.”

University friends Tristan Clark, 27, Freddie Flanagan, 27, Freddie Wright, 27, John Lavelle, 26, George Peirson, 26, and Hugh Williams, 27, are attempting to break the record for the fastest marathon in a six-person costume.

The friends are no strangers to running together, having finished a combined five ultramarathons, three marathons, two Ironman triathlons and more than 30 half marathons.

They are fundraising for Brain Research UK, as Freddie’s uncle died of a brain tumour in 2012. Freddie has been raising money for this charity ever since.
