Lucozade Sport is an isotonic sports drink which contains carbohydrates and electrolytes to enhance hydration and help maintain performance during prolonged endurance exercise, making it the ideal product to support you in the TCS London Marathon.

The Science 

• Your marathon running is fuelled by carbohydrate and we store carbohydrate in the body, mainly in the muscles, as glycogen. Whileyou are running you will be using this stored glycogen for energy, and stores will gradually reduce during your run. It is therefore important to keep these stores topped up by consuming carbohydrate during endurance exercise.
• Our team of sports scientists from Lucozade Sport suggest using a combination of Lucozade Sport drinks and gels throughout your training and race day.
• A 500ml bottle of Lucozade Sport contains on average 31.5g carbohydrate, plus electrolytes, specifically 250mg sodium. Drinking a bottle of Lucozade Sport every 60-90 minutes whilst running can enhance hydration and help maintain endurance performance.
• The Lucozade Sport Dual-Fuel Energy Gels are a concentrated source of carbohydrate. Each gel sachet provides 30g of carbohydrate in a convenient, portable and easy to open sachet (although they do not provide hydration so consume alongside water).

Event Day – mass event

• Lucozade Sport Orange will be available at Mile 9, 15, 21, along with Lucozade Sport gels at Mile 14 and 19. Always remember to sip little and often – this will keep your muscle glycogen stores from dropping too low while helping to keep you hydrated and being more comfortable on the stomach.
• Finally, please remember to recycle your bottle! All Lucozade Sport bottles at the TCS London Marathon will be made from recycled plastic, and fully recyclable.

Event Day  – virtual event

• It is essential that you think ahead and plan your hydration station strategy! Lucozade Sport is here to support you, so practice what you plan to do on Event Day in advance.
• Our team of sports scientists from Lucozade Sport suggest planning your route so that you can meet someone who can give you your fuel at certain planned points.
• We would recommend drinking a bottle of Lucozade Sport or taking a Lucozade Sport Dual-Fuel Energy gel alongside water every 60-90 minutes while running, to enhance hydration and help maintain endurance performance. Always remember to sip little and often – this will keep your muscle glycogen stores from dropping too low while helping to keep you hydrated and being more comfortable on the stomach.
