About the virtual 2022 TCS London Marathon

The 2022 TCS London Marathon on Sunday 2 October is set to be a fantastic spectacle, with 50,000 people taking part on the central London course and up to 40,000 more taking part all around the globe in the virtual event. Participants in the virtual TCS London Marathon will again have 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds to complete the 26.2 miles on the course of their choice, and all finishers will receive the coveted official medal and New Balance T-shirt.

Fantastic fundraising opportunity for charities

The virtual 2022 TCS London Marathon builds on the huge success of the virtual event over the past two years and provides a fantastic fundraising opportunity for charities – it’s the perfect way for them to engage with supporters wherever they are in the world and gives participants the chance to raise funds no matter where they live!

Please note, any charities that have unused entries for the virtual 2022 TCS London Marathon will not be able to roll them over to the 2023 edition of the event.

The key dates for the virtual 2022 TCS London Marathon are:

  • Friday 28 January 2022: charity entries open for the virtual 2022 TCS London Marathon
  • Monday 14 March 2022: results of the public ballot for the 2022 TCS London Marathon announced

Building on the success of the virtual 2020 and 2021 virtual London Marathon

The 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 3 October was the world’s biggest-ever marathon, with up to 24,000 participants in the virtual event from more than 100 countries joining more than 35,000 runners on the traditional course from Blackheath to The Mall.

The 2021 event was inspired by the huge success of the very first virtual Virgin Money London Marathon in October 2020, which came about due to the pandemic. It proved to be a fantastic fundraising opportunity for charities and an opportunity to engage with supporters wherever they were in the world – and whatever their abilities.

Meaningful miles

Since participants had 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds to complete the virtual 2021 London Marathon on the course of their choice, it meant they were able to do their 26.2 miles, their way. Sisters Laura and Nicola share how the virtual event format allowed them to complete the distance in places that meant so much to them.
