Deferred Entry

Deferred Entry

Life doesn’t always go to plan and that’s why, for those who are eligible, we offer the opportunity to defer your place to next year’s TCS London Marathon.

The eligible entry types are outlined below, please read the criteria carefully.

If you are eligible, please submit your request via the Request Deferral button at the bottom of the page. This will take you through to Let's Do This where you will be asked to confirm your booking ID and details used to enter. Your booking ID can be found in the confirmation email received when you entered.

Please note, the deadline for requesting deferral is 23:59 on Saturday 20 April.

If you’re not eligible, no further action is required.

TCS London Marathon MyWay entries cannot be deferred.

UK entrants

Rolled over ballot, club or stakeholder entry from the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon

  • If you had a place in the 2020 event and opted to roll this over to 2021, you were able to defer your place to the 2022 TCS London Marathon. We will email you in due course with details of how to pay the required 2022 entry fee of £49 to secure your place.

Places through the ballot, running clubs and stakeholders in 2021

  • If you got your place through the ballot for the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon or have a guaranteed place from a running club or a stakeholder (such as a local authority, emergency service, volunteer group or another group), you could defer your place to the 2022 TCS London Marathon. You will need to pay the 2022 entry fee of £49 to secure your place and we will email you in due course with details of how to do so.

Places provided by a charity in 2020 or 2021

  • If your place was provided by a charity, it was not possible for you to defer it as the place belongs to the charity. Please contact the charity direct to discuss your options. Please note that deferral of your place to a future year is at the charity’s discretion.

Places provided by a sponsor in 2020 or 2021

  • If your place was provided and due to be paid for by a sponsor, it was not possible for you to defer. Please contact the sponsor direct to discuss your options.

Back of the Pack places from 2020

  • If you had a free-of-charge Back of the Pack place for 2020 and subsequently opted to roll over your place to 2021, this was not eligible for deferral.

Good For Age places

  • Good For Age places are awarded based on qualifying times achieved within the designated qualifying period and cannot be deferred. To find out more about Good For Age entry, click here

International entrants

Places provided by international tour operators in 2021*

  • Your international tour operator may be able to arrange for you to transfer your entry to the 2022 TCS London Marathon, but you must discuss your options with them direct as there is no guarantee of this.
  • * Participants from China should reach out to Wanda Sports.

Places from the 2021 international ballot

  • If you are an international runner and got your place through the international ballot for the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon, you could defer your place to 2022. You will receive an email from us with details on how to pay for and secure a guaranteed entry for 2022.
  • Please note that if your country of origin, or the UK, would not permit you to travel to and from England at any stage from 30 August 2021 to 3 October 2021 without quarantine, you will not need to pay the 2022 entry fee. However, if your country of origin and the UK allowed non-quarantined travel from 30 August 2021 to 3 October 2021, you will be required to pay the 2022 international entry fee of £99 (you will not be charged the £26 carbon offset fee again as you have not travelled) for the 2022 event.

Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships

  • If your country of origin would not permit you to travel to England at any stage from 30 August 2021 to Sunday 3 October 2021, or if the UK government would not permit entry from your country of origin in the same time period, you could either request a full refund of your entry fee or transfer your entry to the 2023 Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships. This event is scheduled to take place in North America in the first three months of 2023.
  • We contacted you by the end of October 2021 to offer you the choice of these two options, but you must have withdrawn from the 2021 event before 20:00 on Saturday 2 October to be eligible. Please note that it is not possible to defer your place to the 2022 event.
